Peacock is Experimenting with Mini-Games and Short Videos
As the streaming service continues to struggle to keep pace with major players in the entertainment industry such as Netflix, TikTok, and YouTube, Peacock has announced that it will be piloting two new initiatives: mini-games and a short-form vertical video feed. The company showcased these experiments at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Monday.
According to reports, Peacock will begin testing these features on its iOS and Android apps starting this month, before rolling them out more broadly later this spring. It’s worth noting that some users may be selected to see either just the games or just the video playlists, while others may not have access to either feature during the initial testing phase.
The mini-games, which will initially include five titles, are designed to enhance fan engagement with popular TV shows and sports programming. This is a clever move by Peacock as it aims to attract players who are passionate about specific IP’s. For instance, Venn allows users to sort items into the appropriate circles based on a daily theme that relates to episodes of shows like “Below Deck.” Meanwhile, Predictions enables users to predict outcomes for TV shows and sports events, allowing them to come back later and see how accurate their guesses were.
As for the short-form vertical video playlists, these will be updated daily and weekly. The content will include clips from Peacock’s vast library of TV shows, movies, sports, news, and more. Users can easily navigate through the clips by tapping on them to access the respective show’s page, making it simple to continue watching.
It is believed that this new feature could be an attractive addition for viewers seeking short-form entertainment, especially considering the potential TikTok ban looming.
