Musk Might Back Pro-Crypto Candidate Pierre Poilievre in Canada
In a shocking turn of events, Elon Musk has seemingly shown interest in supporting Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative Party leader and potential Canadian Prime Minister. This comes as no surprise, given Poilievre’s outspoken stance on cryptocurrency.
As reported by various sources, Musk recently shared a video of Poilievre discussing inflation and government overspending. The caption reads, “Perfectly articulated.” Musk’s endorsement has sparked speculation about his potential support for the Conservative Party candidate in the upcoming Canadian election.
Notably, Elon Musk is not the only notable figure to express admiration for Poilievre’s views on cryptocurrency. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong also took to social media to praise the leader’s stance, responding to the video with “Well said.”
Meanwhile, BTC Inc. CEO David Bailey suggested that Poilievre could establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve for Canada. It is unclear whether these statements constitute explicit endorsements or simple expressions of support.
Poilievre has been an outspoken advocate for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general. During his 2022 campaign, he demonstrated the practical use of cryptocurrency by purchasing a chicken shawarma in Ontario using Bitcoin.
This move echoed other notable political figures who have utilized cryptocurrencies during their campaigns. For example, Donald Trump used the Lightning Network to purchase burgers during his campaign in 2024.
In addition to this, Poilievre has been vocal about his opposition to government control over financial systems and has called for increased freedom for citizens to use cryptocurrencies.
Furthermore, it was revealed that Pierre Poilievre supported legislation aimed at banning central bank digital currency (CBDC) in Canada. This move aligns with Musk’s own views on the subject.
Poilievre also expressed his vision for a blockchain-powered system in Canada, stating, “Money-printing deficits make our wages go up in smoke. We need sound money again—and also the freedom for buyers and sellers to choose Bitcoin and other technologies.”
In a surprising move, Vancouver City Council approved a motion by Mayor Ken Sim to explore holding Bitcoin in reserve and accepting cryptocurrency payments for municipal services. In support of this initiative, Sim pledged $10,000 worth of Bitcoin.
It remains to be seen whether Elon Musk will indeed throw his support behind Pierre Poilievre. However, given their shared views on the importance of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, such a move would not come as a shock to many in the community.
