Google Can Turn Your Discover Feed into an AI-Generated Podcast
In a remarkable innovation, Google has been testing an experimental feature that converts your Search and Discover feed history into an AI-generated podcast. Dubbed “Daily Listen,” the feature is currently rolling out to users in the US through the Google app’s Search Labs section.
As reported by 9to5Google, Daily Listen assesses your search data and Discover feed interactions to identify topics of interest to you. It then condenses these stories into a roughly five-minute audio summary, providing a comprehensive overview of the latest news on subjects you care about.
The feature is designed to resemble a traditional podcast, complete with an audio player, scrubber controls, and a text transcript. Users can pause, rewind, or skip through the content at their discretion. Additionally, the AI-generated podcast allows users to engage with each story by liking or disapproving of it with a thumbs up/down.
While it’s unclear when this feature might become available to the broader public, Google has previously tested similar AI-driven features in Search Labs before launching them more widely. Given this precedent, it’s possible that Daily Listen may eventually become a standard part of the Google app experience – though we can only hope that opting out of this feature will be as seamless as opting in.
As with all Google experiments, we’ll have to wait and see whether Daily Listen gains traction or gets shelved. For now, those who have access to Search Labs can opt-in and try out the innovative new feature for themselves.
