The ‘Largest Illicit Online Marketplace’ Ever Is Growing at an Alarming Rate, Report Says
A recent report has shed light on the alarming growth of what is claimed to be the largest illicit online marketplace ever. The platform, Huione, which claims to be a decentralized digital assets trading and transaction platform, has been accused of relying too heavily on third-party infrastructure.
According to experts, Huione’s stablecoin and cryptocurrency exchange have failed to generate significant volumes of transactions despite efforts to promote it within its existing communications channels. This has raised concerns about the platform’s ability to become self-sufficient.
Huione Guarantee, a key feature of the platform, is still dependent on centralized infrastructure provided by Tether and Telegram, says Robinson, an IC researcher. “I think there is an opportunity now to suppress Huione Guarantee through those service providers,” he warns. “If we wait too long, then there is a chance that they move to their own infrastructure and that becomes more challenging.”
The report highlights the platform’s reliance on third-party infrastructure as a potential weakness, which could be exploited by malicious actors.
