A Frantic 911 Call Captures the Heart-Wrenching Moments After a Toddler’s Fatal Sledding Accident
In a devastating turn of events, a family’s idyllic day enjoying newly fallen snow in North Carolina took a tragic turn when their two-year-old son, Ayden Sasser, suffered a fatal sledding accident. The young boy had been playing outside in the small town of Whitsett on Saturday morning when his sled suddenly plunged into a nearby pond, leaving him trapped under the icy surface.
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office released 911 audio capturing the frantic moments following the incident, as desperate individuals attempted to rescue the young child.
According to the emergency call, the mother, Angel Nicole Sasser, frantically reported the situation to dispatchers, stating that her son was near the middle of the frozen lake and two people had jumped into the icy waters to assist in the rescue effort. The caller expressed concern for the child’s well-being due to his prolonged exposure to the freezing water.
“I think they got him,” she sobbed between tears, “It’s really cold though… He was in there for a good minute. He’s probably freezing cold.”
As the situation unfolded, Sasser became increasingly distressed, expressing her deep-seated fear that her child might not survive. The call concluded with her imploring assistance from emergency responders.
Despite efforts by multiple agencies, including Guilford County sheriff’s deputies, the Whitsett Fire Department, and EMS, Ayden Sasser tragically succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. An investigation is currently underway to determine the official cause of death.
The incident also left three other individuals who assisted in the rescue requiring medical attention; they were all subsequently released from the hospital after being treated for exposure.
In the wake of her son’s passing, Sasser took to social media to share a heartfelt fundraiser aimed at supporting her family during this difficult time.
