LinkedIn is rolling out a new AI-powered feature called “Job Match” that aims to help users find job openings they are actually qualified for. The company believes that too many people are applying for positions they don’t have the necessary skills or experience for, making it harder for qualified candidates to stand out.
The “Job Match” feature will provide detailed summaries alongside job listings that highlight how well a user’s experience and skills align with the qualifications outlined in the job description. According to Rohan Rajiv, LinkedIn’s product manager, this AI-powered tool goes beyond simple keyword matching, allowing it to understand the breadth of a person’s experience.
The goal is to surface the most suitable jobs for each individual and discourage them from applying to roles they aren’t qualified for. This feature will be available to all LinkedIn users, with added benefits for Premium subscribers, such as more detailed information about their job match level.
In an interview, Rajiv acknowledged that while AI may not fully address labor market dynamics, there is still a significant portion of the problem that can be solved through transparency and better job matching. He noted that early tests have shown that this feature has already made a “non-trivial chunk” of the issue more solvable.
In related news, recruiters are echoing LinkedIn’s advice, urging unqualified applicants to refrain from applying for jobs they don’t meet the requirements.
