LG Display announces its brightest, most striking OLED TV panel yet
In a surprise move, LG Display has announced its latest and greatest OLED TV panel at CES 2025, boasting an unprecedented maximum brightness of 4,000 nits. This marks a significant improvement over previous generations, offering a more immersive viewing experience for consumers.
According to LG Display, the new fourth-generation OLED panel features a Primary RGB Tandem structure, which has allowed them to increase the amount of light produced by each layer compared to their previous technology. This innovation also enables the panel to maintain its trademark strengths such as perfect blacks, fantastic viewing angles, and fast response times for gaming.
One key difference between this new panel and Samsung Display’s QD-OLED screen is the lack of micro-lens array technology. Instead, LG has opted for a more traditional glossy finish, utilizing “ultra-low reflective technology” to minimize distractions.
In terms of energy efficiency, the new OLED display has also made significant improvements. Color brightness can now reach 2,100 nits, representing a 40 percent increase over the previous version.
While it’s unclear whether TV manufacturers like Panasonic will choose to push this panel to its full potential in their consumer sets, one thing is certain: OLED technology continues to evolve and improve with each generation.
