A California family has captured their terrifying escape from the Pacific Palisades area as devastating wildfires rage through the region.
The dramatic footage shows 11-year-old Lillian Davies recording her mother, Julie, driving down Palisades Drive as they flee from the fires engulfing the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The intense scene depicts a dark yellow sky filled with smoke and flames, leaving little doubt about the gravity of the situation.
“We’re literally driving into the fire,” Lillian can be heard exclaiming in the video.
According to Julie Davies, when she first received an evacuation alert for their neighborhood in the Highlands of Pacific Palisades, they knew it was crucial to leave immediately. “We knew we needed to get out fast,” she emphasized during a recent interview with Fox News.
The family’s hasty exit took them down Palisades Drive, which is the only road leading out of the area that was threatened by the rapidly advancing flames. Julie expressed her anxiety about being temporarily stuck in traffic near the end of the drive, unsure how long they would be delayed.
In a separate interview with Fox News, Lillian explained why she began recording their escape: “I thought they were clouds, but it was actually smoke… And then I saw the flames, and we were like, oh my gosh, there’s the fires right there.”
Tragically, the family has witnessed widespread destruction in their once-thriving community. According to Lillian’s sister, Kelia, many local buildings and residences have been either severely damaged or destroyed by the raging inferno.
“There are some buildings that are still standing and some of our friends’ homes, but most of it is gone,” Kelia shared during her interview with Fox News.
Kelia also expressed the family’s resilience in the face of disaster: “We’re still hopeful that God will come through and just help everyone through this time.”
The devastating wildfires have not only destroyed numerous properties throughout the Los Angeles metropolitan area, including nearby Eaton, but have also become among the most destructive in state history.
