Michelle Obama won’t be sitting anywhere unusual on January 20 – she’ll likely be right by her husband Barack’s side at the swearing-in ceremony of Donald Trump. But while the First Lady is getting ready to leave the White House, her husband has been busy building a real estate empire that could rival his wife’s famous arms.
According to sources close to the couple, Michelle won’t have to worry about where she’ll sit on inauguration day – but she might be more concerned about where they’ll all be living in the years to come. The Obamas have quietly amassed a staggering $12 million portfolio of homes across the United States.
The majority of their properties are located along the East Coast, with Martha’s Vineyard being a favorite spot for the former President and his wife. They own a stunning $8 million estate on the island, which they purchased in 2015 after leaving office.
However, Barack has also been quietly snapping up other high-end properties across the country, including a beach-side estate in Hawaii worth a whopping $4 million and a plush DC bolthole that’s sure to be a favorite retreat for the couple.
As for Michelle, it remains to be seen where she’ll decide to sit out Trump’s inauguration – but one thing is for certain, it won’t be at home.
