Bring Gotham City To Your Tabletop With This Batman Role Playing Game
As a fan of the Caped Crusader, it can be exciting to bring Gotham City to life in your own tabletop adventures. And, with the release of Batman: Gotham City Chronicles Skyline Edition, that’s exactly what you can do.
This comprehensive game includes three books that detail the world of Gotham City and its characters. The first book is a guide to the city itself, detailing famous locations like Arkham Asylum, Amusement Mile, and Wayne Manor. This book also goes in-depth about various organizations within the city, including both allies like the Birds of Prey and Teen Titans, as well as enemies such as the Religion of Crime and the Court of Owls.
The second book delves into the characters that make up this world. From classic villains to newer takes on beloved characters, there’s a wealth of information here for fans and players alike. It’s not just limited to Batman himself, either – you’ll find write-ups for both older and newer versions of the Dark Knight, as well as other notable figures like Signal.
While this book does have some omissions, such as a section on the GCPD or mentions without write-ups for groups like the Titans and Outsiders, it still provides a lot to work with. Unfortunately, it also lacks an index, which can make finding specific information a bit of a challenge.
The third and final book is all about adventures, featuring a range of storylines that bring these characters to life in your own games. These scenarios highlight not just the different levels of play, but also the types of stories you can tell. There are one-shot missions built around specific character archetypes like members of the Birds of Prey or GCPD officers, as well as a larger campaign where players take on the role of various Gotham City citizens and get caught up in the competition between different criminals vying for control.
While it’s disappointing that there isn’t an adventure that lets players join the colorful criminal world of Gotham City, the game does include a story centered around Bruce Wayne being kidnapped – which brings together an eclectic mix of characters to save the day.
