Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1312 Hints, Clues and Answer for Tuesday, January 21st
The cold weather lately has got me worrying about the upcoming fire season in LA. I’m trying to distract myself with a Wordle puzzle instead! But before we dive into today’s hints, clues, and answer, let’s quickly recap yesterday’s puzzle. We’re all set!
**Hint:** Cake!
**Clue:** This Wordle has a double letter.
Alright, let’s get started! Today, I posted my attempt to solve the puzzle on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, but unfortunately, I didn’t quite meet expectations. After just two attempts, the Wordle Bot outsmarted me (again!). The opening guess, SPOIL, didn’t fare well, and CRATE only gave me one more yellow box. I then went with JUICY and finally got down to a single possible solution: ICING.
**Answer:** ICING
Competitive Wordle Score Update
Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points. If you outplay your opponent, you score 1 point. In the event of a tie, you receive 0 points. However, if you lose to your opponent, you’ll earn -1 point.
This week’s Etymology Corner explores the history behind our winning word, icing. The term “icing” originates from the verb “ice,” meaning “to cover or coat with ice or something resembling ice.” This stems from Old English īs, which translates to “ice” and is derived from Proto-Germanic īsą and Proto-Indo-European root h₁eyH- (meaning “to freeze” or “ice”). The usage of icing in the context of desserts emerged around the 18th century. It refers to a sweet glaze or coating for cakes and pastries, mimicking the appearance of ice due to its smooth and glossy surface.
