X is Rolling Out Dedicated Vertical Video Feed for US Users
In a move to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding ByteDance’s apps in the US, social network X has announced that it will be launching a dedicated vertical video feed specifically for its US users. The new feature is being rolled out today and will allow users to quickly access video content within the app.
The addition of a video tab in the bottom bar of the app marks the company’s latest effort to focus on video experiences. As previously reported by an app reverse engineer, this is not the first time X has explored creating a new home for videos. The social network had previewed a media tab for videos earlier, but today’s announcement marks the official launch of this feature.
X users will now be able to access vertical videos directly through the video tab, rather than having to scroll through their timeline and tap on individual videos. This development comes as TikTok faces troubles in the US market, following the removal of ByteDance apps from U.S. app stores.
The move by X is seen as an attempt to capitalize on this uncertainty, as other social networks also try to fill the void left by the absent ByteDance apps. Meta, for instance, has launched a video editing app called Edits, while rival Bluesky has introduced a custom feed specifically designed for vertical videos.
It remains to be seen how effective X’s strategy will be in the highly competitive US market, but one thing is certain – the social network’s commitment to video experiences just got a significant boost with this new feature.
