Dozens of subreddits are banning X links from their communities
In recent days, dozens of subreddits have taken the drastic measure of blocking links to X in their communities. According to reports, these restrictions have been put in place by millions-strong subreddits such as r/formula1 and r/casualnintendo.
The decision has been sparked by issues with the platform’s requirement for users to be logged in before they can view posts, which has led to a decline in community engagement. Many moderators are instead encouraging their members to share content from alternative platforms like Bluesky, where posts do not require login credentials.
r/antiwork, which boasts an impressive 2.9 million members, has even taken the step of prohibiting links and screenshots to X as well as other social media sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn.
While not all moderators are in favor of this decision, many have cited Twitter’s shift towards a more paid-based model and prioritization of sensationalist content as reasons for their ban.
