Celeste developers cancel follow-up game Earthblade
The makers of Celeste have announced that they are cancelling their latest project, Earthblade. In a statement, the team explained that the decision was made due to a combination of factors.
Firstly, the team experienced a disagreement over IP rights for Celeste, which led to a rift between Pedro Medeiros and the other developers, Maddy Thorson and Noel Berry. While this conflict has been resolved, it had already taken its toll on the project, leading the team to re-evaluate their priorities.
Additionally, the huge success of Celeste put immense pressure on the development team to deliver something even better with Earthblade. This pressure has resulted in exhaustion for the team members, making it increasingly difficult for them to continue working on the game.
As a result, Thorson and Berry have decided to shift their focus towards creating smaller-scale projects that allow them to rediscover the joy of game development, similar to how they approached Celeste and TowerFall.
