Sega Unveils Player Account System, Offers Exclusive Reward
In a recent announcement, Sega has introduced a new player account system, which aims to connect all of a player’s games and services from both Sega and Atlus. The platform will also serve as a hub for news, events, updates, and promotions related to the companies’ titles.
As part of this initiative, Sega is offering an exclusive reward to early sign-ups. Anyone who sets up a Sega Account before March 7 will receive a Kazuma Kiryu Special Outfit DLC for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which is set to be released next month.
The new account system is free and open to anyone, with no requirements or catches. This comes as many game studios are moving towards the “games as a service” model, requiring players to create accounts or online profiles. While Sega is joining this trend a bit late, it’s promising that there will be “various new services and features coming soon.”
It’s worth noting that some standard features, such as a page for tracking game records, are still in development at the time of this writing. However, no language on the website indicates if an account will ever become mandatory.
The move comes amid Sega’s efforts to revamp its offerings, with recent announcements about a brand new Virtua Fighter game and the closure of some older titles. It remains to be seen what other surprises the company has in store for this year.
