UFC 312 Update Card Revealed With Questionable PPV Lineup
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has revealed the updated card for their upcoming event, UFC 312. The main attraction is a welterweight title fight between Sean Strickland and Zhang Weili, with both fighters looking to make a statement in their respective divisions.
Strickland, who captured the welterweight title by defeating Dangalbek Sultanov at UFC 305, is set to defend his title against Weili Zhang, the reigning women’s strawweight champion. While many fans are less than enthused about this matchup, Strickland has confirmed that he will put on a show for the crowd.
In an interview with Forbes, Strickland stated, “I’d rather fight Chimaev because I thought that would be more exciting, but that’s not what they promised me. So, we’ll have to make do with Tatiana Suarez.”
On the other hand, Zhang Weili has expressed her gratitude for this opportunity and is determined to put up a strong performance.
The co-main event features another title fight between the UFC women’s strawweight champion, Tatiana Suarez, defending her belt against Zhang Weili. Despite the lack of buildup and preparation time for this fight, it promises to be an intense match-up.
However, the rest of the card is where things get questionable. The main card will begin with a matchup between Matthews vs. Prado, which has raised eyebrows in the MMA community due to both fighters not being ranked or even close to gaining that distinction.
The next fight on the PPV portion features hometown favorite Crute against Bellato, while Teixeira makes his main-roster debut after an impressive showing on Dana White’s Contender Series and Tafa, a KO artist with major holes in his game: stamina and wrestling.
