Justin Timberlake Recalls Pitching Beyoncé on ‘Single Ladies’ Male Dancer ‘SNL’ Sketch: ‘She Was Not Having It’
In a recent interview, Justin Timberlake shared a hilarious story about pitching Beyoncé on an “SNL” sketch featuring a male dancer in response to her iconic ‘Single Ladies’ video. According to the pop star, Queen Bey was not impressed with his idea.
Timberlake recalled the incident during a conversation with comedian and TV host Ellen DeGeneres. He explained that after the release of ‘Single Ladies,’ he thought it would be funny to create an “SNL” sketch where he plays a male dancer trying to keep up with some female backup dancers performing the choreography from the song.
“I pitched [Beyoncé] on this idea, and she was not having it,” Timberlake joked. “She said, ‘Oh, Justin, that’s just not funny.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, okay, you’re right.'”
He continued, “I think [the sketch] would’ve been a little too on-the-nose at the time.” Given the massive success and cultural impact of the video, it’s understandable why Beyoncé might have been hesitant to parody it.
The incident serves as a reminder that even the most creative minds can benefit from constructive criticism. It’s great to see both artists have maintained their friendly relationship over the years, and we’re sure they’ll continue to inspire and entertain us in the future.
