Justin Timberlake Recalls Pitching Beyoncé on ‘Single Ladies’ Male Dancer ‘SNL’ Sketch: ‘She Was Not Having It’
During a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Justin Timberlake opened up about pitching an “SNL” sketch to none other than Queen Bey herself.
As a former cast member of Saturday Night Live (2003-2006), Timberlake shared that he tried to convince Beyoncé to participate in a skit where she would star alongside a male dancer. The idea was to create a parody of her hit single “Single Ladies” with the twist being that the male counterpart would be awkwardly trying to keep up with Bey’s iconic choreography.
However, Timberlake revealed that Beyoncé wasn’t having it: “I pitched it to Beyoncé, and she was not interested. She was like, ‘No, no, no, we’re good.'”
The singer-actor went on to explain the reasoning behind his suggestion, stating that he wanted to poke fun at the iconic dance routine while also acknowledging its impact: “I thought, ‘Let’s make fun of it, but also acknowledge how amazing it is.’ I love the song; I think it’s incredible. But I just thought it would be funny.”
Despite Beyoncé shooting down his idea, Timberlake has nothing but respect for the megastar and her commitment to her artistry: “I admire her so much for sticking to her vision… she’s a true artist who doesn’t compromise. And that’s something we can all learn from.”
