Trump’s FCC is Coming From NPR and PBS Now Too
In a sudden turn of events, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has launched an investigation into National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). This move comes after Brendan Carr, the chairman of the FCC, expressed concerns that these organizations may be violating federal law by airing commercials.
In his letter to NPR and PBS, Carr highlighted the possibility that member stations could be broadcasting underwriting announcements that cross the line into prohibited commercial advertisements. He emphasized that FCC guidelines strictly prohibit non-commercial educational broadcast stations (NCEs) from airing typical TV or radio station commercials.
Instead, sponsors are only permitted to receive on-air acknowledgments. It seems that the investigation is aimed at ensuring both NPR and PBS comply with these regulations.
