Ex-NFL Star Julian Edelman Slams Chiefs’ Referee Favoritism: ‘Bunch of Bull-oney’
In a recent interview, three-time Super Bowl champion and former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman called out the notion that referees are favoring the Kansas City Chiefs in their recent playoff runs. Edelman, who played alongside Tom Brady for nine seasons, has won multiple championships under the legendary quarterback’s leadership.
Fans have consistently theorized that the referees were giving the Patriots an unfair advantage during their Super Bowl appearances, but Edelman shed some light on the situation. He revealed that players and coaches alike spend time studying referee crews to understand how they call games. “We all have scouting reports on each ref crew and how they like to [call] the game,” he said.
Edelman emphasized that while referees do miss calls and make mistakes, their consistency is crucial. “If it’s close, leave it alone,” he urged. The former wide receiver also criticized fans who believe there’s a conspiracy against specific teams, saying, “Yeah, they’ll probably have to address that sideline awareness stuff, but these whole graphics about, ‘Oh, they get the call and don’t give the call to them.’ Because they’re coached better.”
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Edelman also drew comparisons between his Patriots teams and the current Chiefs dynasty. He highlighted the importance of situational football, stating, “You watch them on third down, you watch them in the red area. A lot of these games when you get to this time of year, they’re not won by the team that makes the most plays. Yeah, that’s part of it. It’s always the team that makes the least amount of mistakes.”
When asked about similarities between his Patriots teams and the Chiefs, Edelman emphasized their ability to play mistake-free football.
