A former California teacher who was fired for refusing to comply with a school district’s transgender student policies has expressed jubilation over a new executive order signed by former President Donald Trump, which aims to restrict the spread of gender ideology in schools.
Jessica Tapia, who lost her job two years ago after refusing to tell parents that her students had undergone gender transitions, hailed the Trump administration’s decision as a “surreal” moment of vindication. The former teacher said she was thrilled that more educators and parents would be protected under the law from being forced to promote gender ideology in schools.
“I’ve heard from thousands of people all across the nation of how grateful they are for the stand I took,” Tapia told Fox News Digital, reflecting on her decision to stand firm against the school district’s policies. “Just to see Trump come in and immediately make these changes served as such affirmation for me, like, ‘You really did do the right thing.'”
Tapia’s termination came after she refused to tell parents that students had undergone gender transitions without their knowledge or consent. The teacher claimed that the Jurupa Unified School District ordered her to lie to parents regarding their children’s gender transitions.
In response to Trump’s executive order, Tapia expressed hope that it would bring relief to educators and parents who are being forced to promote gender ideology in schools. She emphasized that teachers have been leaving the profession in droves due to these issues, but noted that “hope is definitely rising” with this new development.
However, not everyone has welcomed Trump’s executive order. Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), criticized the move, accusing Trump of unfairly targeting teachers and creating division in classrooms.
“Today is a sad day because the Trump administration is doing exactly what it accuses others of: creating division and fear in classrooms across America,” Weingarten wrote in a press release.
