Rob Gronkowski takes NFL officials to task over alleged Chiefs favoritism
Former NFL star Rob Gronkowski has sparked controversy by suggesting that the league’s officials are giving unfair advantages to the Kansas City Chiefs, his team in Sunday’s Super Bowl LIX.
Gronk, who won four Super Bowls during his playing career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, believes the referees have been “definitely more lenient” towards the Chiefs. He made the comment while promoting his sponsor Bounty’s efforts to clean up after Super Bowl festivities in New Orleans.
“I just feel like there’s something, like, maybe give them an extra call or two,” Gronk said. “Don’t make it too obvious, but make it a little obvious.”
Gronkowski also emphasized that the Chiefs’ dominance is no excuse for other teams to fall short, citing his own experience of having opportunities to lose and still emerging victorious.
“You have opportunities to beat them, you got to overcome all situations, and the Buffalo Bills need to make championship plays in championship moments,” Gronk said. “You can’t blame it on the refs.”
While there’s no evidence to support Gronkowski’s claims, his comments have sparked debate among fans and sports pundits alike.
Gronkowski’s remarks come as the Chiefs are set to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles on Super Bowl Sunday. The game will be streamed live on Tubi.
