Former NCAA Swimmers Share “Abuse” as Transgender Athlete Competes Against Them, Urge Georgia Lawmakers to Pass Ban on Transgender Participation in Women’s Sports
Two former college swimmers who have publicly spoken out against the participation of transgender athletes in women’s sports shared their personal experiences with abuse and trauma at a Georgia Senate hearing on Wednesday.
The pair, including Riley Gaines, a 2022 NCAA champion, testified before lawmakers as part of an ongoing lawsuit against the NCAA led by fellow former swimmer Gaines over the NCAA’s policies on gender ideology.
Wheeler and Lyons expressed their shared experiences with a message urging state senators to pass the Fair and Safe Athletic Opportunities Act. However, the bill drew opposition from parents, physicians, and others.
