Trump’s Migrant Crackdown Leaves Killers, Rapists Nowhere to Run
President Donald Trump has unleashed a crackdown on illegal immigration and crime in the country, with federal agencies working together to deport thousands of suspected illegal immigrants who pose a threat to American public safety.
The FBI is deeply involved in this effort, assisting Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in rounding up known criminal aliens around the country. The unprecedented operation has seen the arrest of hundreds of migrants with violent criminal records, including alleged child predators, gang members, and suspected terrorists.
Just yesterday, law enforcement officials announced that they had apprehended a man suspected of running a human smuggling “stash house” in El Paso, Texas, following a tip from federal authorities. The Venezuelan national denied any connection to criminal gangs, but the investigation is ongoing.
This intense effort has led to thousands of arrests nationwide, with immigration arrest numbers swelling to roughly 5,500 since last Thursday alone. The operation is designed to target known criminals and gang members who are attempting to hide in plain sight by exploiting our nation’s porous borders.
The FBI has also been assisting ICE agents in cities across the country, conducting targeted sweeps for these dangerous individuals. Meanwhile, ICE officials have made clear that they will not hesitate to use their authority to detain and deport any migrant with a violent criminal record.
President Trump has taken aim at sanctuary cities and states that fail to comply with federal immigration laws, vowing to strip them of funding if they continue to ignore the law. “We’re going to send up to 30,000 illegal aliens who pose a threat to American public safety to Guantánamo Bay,” he said in a statement Wednesday.
The administration’s efforts have been bolstered by legislation passed last year, known as the Laken Riley Act, which mandates the detention and deportation of illegal alien criminals. States are also empowered to sue if immigration laws are ignored.
As part of this crackdown, Trump has named Brian Driscoll, a former Naval Criminal Investigative Service agent with extensive experience in SWAT operations, as acting director of the FBI.
