US Lawmakers Expected to Propose Crypto Regulations by November, Says Anthony Scaramucci
Former White House communications director and SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci has predicted that US lawmakers will introduce a proposal for crypto regulations by November of this year. In an interview with the Financial Times on February 4th, Scaramucci suggested that members of Congress will push for “positive crypto legislation” to avoid alienating the industry’s deep-pocketed lobbyists and single-issue crypto voters.
Scaramucci claimed that lawmakers are likely to introduce a crypto market structure bill as part of a broader effort before breaking for the holiday recess. He hinted at a potential surge in legislative activity as politicians seek to solidify their positions on digital assets ahead of an election cycle where crypto-friendly political action committees (PACs) could wield significant influence.
Scaramucci’s prediction comes as lawmakers are increasingly aware of the growing power and financial clout of the crypto industry. Notably, the Fairshake PAC spent a staggering $131 million on pro-crypto candidates in the 2024 elections, signaling its intent to remain aggressive. This has placed pressure on lawmakers to demonstrate their alignment with the industry’s interests.
The former White House communications director also criticized former President Trump’s crypto stance, labeling it as opportunistic and transactional. Scaramucci stated that Trump’s tariffs triggered a cryptocurrency crash and instant recovery, raising questions about his motivations for making such a move.
