Vice President J.D. Vance will make his debut on the international stage by attending a two-day artificial intelligence summit in Paris next week. This marks his first international trip since taking office in January.
The Artificial Intelligence Action Summit, co-hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to bring together leaders from around the world to focus on problems that can be solved by AI. The meeting’s primary goal is to establish scientific foundations, solutions, and standards for more sustainable AI development that serves collective progress and the public interest.
This summit comes at a timely moment, following the launch of a new Chinese artificial intelligence site called DeepSeek. This low-cost, open-source generative AI tool has sparked financial market turbulence in the U.S. and raised concerns within the tech sector due to its reliance on inferior chips and technology.
Notably, there are currently no international regulations governing the development of artificial intelligence. This lack of oversight has led to increased scrutiny surrounding AI’s potential impact on national security and global stability.
In other news, the White House recently announced Stargate – a massive $500 billion investment in artificial intelligence development in the U.S., backed by OpenAI, Softbank, and Oracle. President Trump hailed this initiative as the largest AI infrastructure project in history, stating it would provide the physical and virtual infrastructure to power the next generation of AI.
Following his attendance at the summit, Vice President Vance is expected to travel to the annual Munich Security Conference.
