TikTok Advises Android Users in the US to Sideload the App
TikTok has taken a bold move by advising its loyal Android user base in the United States to sideload the app, despite it not being available on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. The social media giant announced this development through one of its official Twitter handles, TikTok Policy.
According to the tweet, the company is now making Android Package Kits available for download through its official website. This move enables US-based Android users to continue utilizing the app and engage in their favorite activities on the platform.
The decision comes as a response to the recent law banning TikTok in the US unless ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, sells it to an owner based in the country. The penalty for not complying with this law would be a hefty fine of $5,000 per user who downloads the app from outside sources.
The brief ban on TikTok last month was followed by a 75-day pause, which has given ByteDance until April to reach an agreement and sell the app. It is noteworthy that one of President Donald Trump’s executive orders imposed this temporary halt.
As negotiations progress, several companies and individuals have already expressed interest in purchasing TikTok in the US. This list includes Perplexity AI and MrBeast, a well-known YouTube personality.
With the clock ticking towards the April deadline, it appears that TikTok is willing to take drastic measures to ensure its users can continue enjoying their experience on the platform. Providing Android Package Kits for download through its website could be a vital lifeline for those unable or unwilling to wait out the impasse.
By releasing these kits, TikTok has effectively circumvented the ban and enabled its loyal user base in the US to sideload the app and continue their activity uninterrupted.
