‘Fortnite’ Reveals GTA-ish Chapter 6 Season 2, ‘Lawless,’ Plus Release Date
Epic has just announced “Lawless,” the second season of Chapter 6 in Fortnite, with a gritty, street-level aesthetic that may be more familiar to fans of Grand Theft Auto 3. The new season is set to release on February 21, 2025.
The brief teaser video showcasing this new chapter offers a glimpse into the theme and at least one location, “Crime City, where the hustle never stops.” The city appears to take inspiration from Gotham City, minus Batman (or so we think). The tagline for the season is “Dill with it,” accompanied by a mugshot of what seems to be a rapper that’s been turned into a pickle.
But more pressing than this peculiar rapstar-turned-veggie is a wanted poster featuring a thug version of Midas, hinting at his return in the battle pass. The streets are littered with gold bars, which may confirm rumors about another heist season on the horizon. Some players have expressed disappointment at the prospect of yet another heist-focused campaign, but my take is that this is not an attempt to replicate a “slick” heist like we’ve seen in the past, but rather an homage to Grand Theft Auto 3’s gritty and dark atmosphere.
The possibility of Fortnite collaborating with GTA has crossed my mind. What if Rockstar Games were willing to share their iconic characters? We could see skins inspired by Tommy Vercetti, CJ, Michael, Franklin, Trevor, or even more Night City-based Cyberpunk characters. It may be too much to hope for Batman villains we’ve yet to receive in Fortnite. Despite the darker tone, I believe this season will take a different approach from past installments and attempt to create an entirely new aesthetic.
The question now is what collaborations with other intellectual properties could result from this gritty direction. Could we see more GTA-inspired content? Or perhaps crossovers with other franchises known for their dark themes? The possibilities are endless, but the outcome ultimately depends on how well-received this new season will be by the player base.
As a final thought, I wonder if we’ll ever get to see Jason and Lucia skins from Cyberpunk 2077, the protagonists of that game. It’s unlikely until the game’s release, but who knows? Maybe some Batman villains we don’t have yet? The sky is truly the limit in Fortnite’s creative world.
Stay tuned for more updates on this new season as they become available.
