Argentina’s President Javier Milei has clarified his stance regarding the LIBRA token, stating that he did not actively promote the digital asset but instead merely shared information about it.
In an interview on TN’s program “¿La Ves?”, Milei emphasized his techno-optimistic nature as the driving force behind sharing the project. The president explained that his actions were motivated by a desire to improve financing options for technology entrepreneurs, rather than any intention to promote LIBRA specifically.
Milei claimed to have met with Hayden Mark Davis at Casa Rosada in October 2024 to discuss creating a financing structure for entrepreneurs lacking traditional funding opportunities. He stated that the meeting was a result of his enthusiasm for innovative projects and his willingness to support entrepreneurship.
Regarding the controversy surrounding the token, Milei rejected allegations that he had promoted LIBRA on a widespread scale, asserting that only a small number of people were affected by his actions. The president estimated that no more than 5,000 individuals were impacted, contradicting earlier claims that nearly 44,000 investors were involved.
Milei also denied government involvement in the LIBRA operation and warned that “if the justice system determines otherwise, heads will roll.”
