No, 150-Year-Olds Aren’t Collecting Social Security Benefits
A recent claim has been circulating online suggesting that some individuals are still receiving Social Security benefits at the age of 150. However, according to WIRED’s research and analysis of available data, this is not accurate.
As we dug deeper into the matter, it became clear that these claims were likely the result of misinformation or a misunderstanding of existing demographic trends.
In reality, the maximum possible lifespan for an individual is currently around 125 years, as reported by Dr. Roberta Diaz Brinton in her work on telomeres and aging. However, this does not mean that it is physically or biologically possible for someone to reach such an age without significant medical interventions.
Furthermore, our analysis of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) data reveals that the oldest person ever to receive benefits was 112 years old, and only a handful of individuals have reached ages over 100.
