Google Releases New Feature Boost To Millions Of iPhone Owners
In a move to enhance the user experience for millions of iPhone owners, Google has announced the release of a new feature for its Lens users on iOS. This innovative feature allows users to complete image searches using gestures.
As of now, this feature is available to English-language users in countries where AI Overviews are supported. To access it, users need to open the Chrome app, tap the three-dot menu, and select ‘Search Screen with Google Lens.’ This will launch a new interface where users can draw a circle around or tap on an image to initiate a search.
Once initiated, Google matches the picture against its database of indexed images, powered by AI technology. The process is swift and efficient, eliminating the need for a screenshot, which was previously required for iPhone and iPad users. This update significantly streamlines the image analysis process.
The announcement has raised eyebrows among tech enthusiasts, as it bears resemblance to the Circle to Search AI feature introduced earlier on both Samsung and Pixel devices. While functionality appears similar, iOS users are forced to access this tool through a more convoluted route involving the Chrome app and the Google app. Android users, in contrast, can quickly activate the feature by long-pressing their screen’s bottom.
As an Apple-exclusive offering, iPhone owners will need to navigate the Chrome app to utilize this new capability. In contrast, Samsung and Pixel device users have seamless access to Circle to Search via a dedicated button. This disparity is attributed to the limitations in accessing and controlling iOS devices compared to Android-based devices.
The addition of this feature has sparked intrigue about the potential expansion of Google’s AI capabilities on iOS. It is unclear if iPhone owners will be granted full access to Circle to Search features or if future updates will bring new functionalities.
