Stablecoin Bank Infini Hacked—Attacker Drains $49M USDC Amid Admin Breach
In a shocking incident, Infini, a stablecoin bank, has suffered a massive hack, with the attacker siphoning off a staggering $49 million worth of USDC. This breach occurred amid an administrative vulnerability, allowing the exploiter to gain unauthorized access and subsequently drain a substantial portion of the funds.
According to reports, the hacker exploited Infini’s admin interface, using it to transfer the stolen assets out of the compromised wallet. The stolen funds were initially held in a new, seemingly freshly created address. To make matters worse, the attacker funded the exploiter’s wallet with a small amount of ETH for gas using Tornado Cash, effectively obscuring the wallet’s origin.
At the time of this report, the stolen assets had not yet been fully mixed, allowing investigators to trace the transactions and potentially link them to other addresses. The hacker is currently unknown, but it has raised concerns among experts regarding potential state-sponsored actors or organized groups with advanced hacking capabilities.
The hack at Infini follows a recent pattern of attacks on cryptocurrency exchanges, which have seen significant losses in recent times. This raises concerns about the overall security of these institutions and their ability to protect user funds.
Infini has not yet revealed any information regarding the breach or provided details about the extent of the damage caused by the attack.
