Lazarus, the new anime from the creator of Cowboy Bebop, premieres April 5
Adult Swim has finally announced a release date for its highly anticipated upcoming series, Lazarus. The anime, created by Shinichirō Watanabe, will premiere on April 5 at midnight and be available to stream on Max the following day.
As reported earlier, Lazarus follows a task force of agents who are on a mission to stop a mad scientist responsible for developing a miracle drug called “Hapna”. The twist? This drug is designed to kill its users three years after they first take it. With the goal of creating a vaccine to prevent these devastating side effects and save the world, the Lazarus team must race against time to track down the creator of Hapna.
The series’ action-packed sequences have been choreographed by none other than John Wick director Chad Stahelski, setting the stage for an intense and thrilling ride. Furthermore, Watanabe has taken inspiration from real-life issues such as the opioid crisis and climate change, promising a unique and thought-provoking narrative.
While fans of Cowboy Bebop may notice some similarities in tone and style, it’s clear that Lazarus is carving out its own distinct path. The anime boasts an equally impressive soundtrack, provided by renowned artists Bonobo, Floating Points, and Kamasi Washington.
It’s been three years since Watanabe’s last series Carole & Tuesday premiered on Netflix, and the wait is almost over. Cowboy Bebop’s live-action remake may have received mixed reviews in 2021, but the world has been eagerly awaiting a new, original anime from Watanabe, and this date brings much-needed relief.
Don’t miss your chance to experience this groundbreaking series when it premieres on April 5.
