Frances Tiafoe Reflects on His Meeting with Kendrick Lamar
Tennis star Frances Tiafoe has shared a heartfelt message about his encounter with renowned musician Kendrick Lamar, saying he was “so cool” to interact with.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Tiafoe recounted the story of how he met Lamar during a surprise visit to his college campus. The tennis player was attending classes at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) and shared that he found Lamar to be surprisingly down-to-earth despite being an iconic figure in the music world.
“He came up to me, we started talking,” Tiafoe said about their conversation. “He’s just so cool, you know? He’s not pretentious at all. He’s a normal dude, and I think that’s what’s so dope.”
The tennis star also praised Lamar’s humble nature, highlighting the way he effortlessly blended in with the college students on campus.
“I’m not gonna lie, it was pretty surreal,” Tiafoe continued. “But at the same time, he was just chillin’, taking pictures with people and just being himself. He didn’t have to be ‘Kendrick Lamar, the artist’. He could’ve easily been like that, but he wasn’t.”
The tennis player’s positive experience with Lamar has clearly left a lasting impression on him.
As for why Tiafoe was attending classes at UCLA, he explained that it is part of his ongoing education and personal growth goals. By taking college courses, the athlete wants to stay connected to his academic pursuits while also exploring various creative outlets.
“It’s just another way for me to learn and grow as a person,” Tiafoe emphasized. “I don’t want to get too comfortable, you know? I want to keep pushing myself.”
