Cloudsmith Raises $23 Million to Improve Software Supply Chain Security
Cloudsmith, a startup focused on improving software supply chain security, has secured $23 million in funding, further solidifying its position as a leader in the space. The new capital injection brings the company’s total investment to $34 million since its inception.
The recent raise comes shortly after Cloudsmith transitioned CEO Glenn Weinstein into the chief strategy officer role and welcomed Twilio executive Carson as the new CEO. This strategic shift has enabled the founders to focus on product vision, roadmap, and architecture while expanding the company’s scope to include a broader range of enterprises and investors in the U.S.
“We are thrilled to have TCV and Insight Partners join us as investors,” said Cloudsmith co-founder Carson in an email statement. “Their investment is a strong signal that we’ve shifted into category leadership.”
With its fresh funding, Cloudsmith plans to expand its workforce across sales, marketing, and customer success positions while investing in R&D for new AI applications. The company will also use the funds to further develop its platform to provide actionable insights to developers.
As part of its mission to improve software supply chain security, Cloudsmith aims to transform vast banks of software package consumption data into actionable advice for developers. By doing so, it intends to help cybersecurity teams create internal curated registries, making it easier for developers to source packages from a trusted and monitored source rather than relying on public registries.
“We want to empower developers by providing them with recommendations based on the choices made by other Cloudsmith customers,” Weinstein explained. “This will involve providing instant advice via the Cloudsmith platform.”
With its significant funding boost, Cloudsmith plans to continue scaling its operations while focusing on its core mission of making software supply chain security more accessible and secure.
Cloudsmith’s recent growth has seen it shift focus towards large enterprises and their specific challenges in managing and securing their software supply chains.
