Andy Dunn’s New App Pie Uses AI to Help You Make Friends
Pie is a social app designed by Andy Dunn, the founder of online fashion retailer Bonobos. The app aims to bring people together in real life by using an AI-powered quiz to predict who users will get along with best at events.
In an interview with TechCrunch, Dunn explained that the app’s goal is to help users make friends and not just connect with others online. He stated, “We’re a long way from pants,” referring to the challenges of making meaningful connections in person.
The app has already gained over 130,000 monthly active users despite only being available in San Francisco and Chicago. To solve the problem of too many attendees at events, Pie has developed an AI-powered quiz that predicts who users will get along with best.
The quiz, powered by ChatGPT, asks a series of questions to gauge personalities and preferences. It then groups people together based on their answers to ensure they have similar traits and interests. Once the event starts, participants can access a group chat where they can discuss topics related to the event’s theme before meeting up in person.
Pie aims to address the growing concern around loneliness and social isolation.
