Open web initiatives Project Liberty and Solid could be teaming up
In a significant development at SXSW 2025, it has emerged that open web initiatives Project Liberty and Solid may be joining forces to achieve their shared goal of creating a more open internet.
According to reports, Frank McCourt, the entrepreneur behind Project Liberty, revealed during a panel discussion that his organization has been in talks with Tim Berners-Lee, the pioneer behind Solid, regarding a potential integration between their projects.
While no official partnership has been announced yet, McCourt hinted at ongoing discussions about incorporating Solid’s Pods into Project Liberty’s infrastructure. This move would see the two entities work together to empower users by giving them control over their digital identities and data.
It is worth noting that Berners-Lee has previously expressed support for Project Liberty’s efforts, stating that they align with his vision of creating a web that provides power and value to individuals. However, there has been no formal collaboration between the two initiatives until now.
Project Liberty has made significant strides in recent times by partnering with organizations such as MeWe, Soar.com, Frequency, and Free Our Feeds.
