Massive X Cyberattack: Here’s Who’s Responsible
On Monday, the popular social media platform X suffered a massive cyberattack, leaving thousands of users unable to access their accounts. The attack, which was identified as a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) assault, brought the service offline for several hours before functionality was swiftly restored.
According to cybersecurity firm SpyoSecure, the hacker group Dark Storm has taken responsibility for the attack. The group’s leader announced the incident in a now-deleted Telegram post, boasting about taking X offline and showcasing widespread connection failures across multiple locations.
While Dark Storm’s Telegram channel has been shut down for violating platform policies, evidence of the attack continues to circulate online. Ed Krassenstein, an entrepreneur and social media commentator, claimed direct communication with Dark Storm’s leader and stated that the hackers described their actions as a show of force rather than an operation driven by political motives.
However, Dark Storm’s history suggests otherwise. The group has been active since 2023 and has a track record of targeting NATO countries. Additionally, its pro-Palestinian stance raises concerns about the motivations behind this attack.
In an interview, Elon Musk confirmed the attack and revealed that his team traced the origin of the hackers’ IP addresses to the “Ukraine area.”
