Tata Technologies’ data leaked by ransomware gang
A ransomware group called Hunters International has published some of the stolen data from Tata Technologies, just over a month after the Indian company confirmed a ransomware attack that led to the suspension of certain services. The leaked data, available on the gang’s dark web leak site, contains personal details about current and former employees at Tata Technologies, as well as confidential information, including purchase orders and contracts with customers in India and the United States.
According to the ransomware group, the stolen data set includes over 730,000 documents, comprising Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and PDF files, which collectively total around 1.4 terabytes in size. This development raises concerns about the potential impact on affected individuals and the company’s operations.
Tata Technologies initially informed Indian stock exchanges of a ransomware attack that impacted “a few” of its IT assets in late January. At the time, Tata stated that its client services remained fully functional and unaffected throughout. It remains unclear whether the leaked data is related to the ransomware attack disclosed earlier this year.
When approached for comment by TechCrunch, representatives from Tata Technologies have not yet provided a response.
Tata Technologies, founded in 1989 as an automotive unit of Tata Motors, subsequently spun off as a separate entity in 1994 and has been operating as a subsidiary of the Indian conglomerate Tata Group since. The company provides product engineering and research and development services to automotive, aerospace equipment makers, and engineering companies across 27 countries.
The company boasts 20 delivery centers and over 12,500 employees, according to its website.
