A Mystery Garmin Has Appeared Online — Upcoming Forerunner Watch?
A new mystery device has emerged online from Garmin, and we’re scratching our heads trying to figure out what it might be. According to FCC filings spotted by the5krunner, a new Garmin product is in the works, but the details are scarce.
The mystery device, dubbed IPH-04968, has been listed as a “mobile transceiver” on the FCC website. However, this vague description doesn’t rule out the possibility of it being a bike computer or another type of wearable device rather than a traditional smartwatch.
One thing that’s clear is that this new Garmin product won’t be a high-end fitness watch. The lack of NFC (Near Field Communication) frequency in the filings suggests that wireless payments via Garmin Pay won’t be an option, which is typically found on premium devices like Forerunner watches.
But what about those whispers of a potential Garmin Forerunner 975? It seems unlikely this new device will fill that gap. The FCC documentation doesn’t provide enough information to confirm whether it’s the rumored update we’ve been hearing about. In fact, the diagram included with the filings suggests a rectangular shape, which could fit either a bike computer or a lozenge-shaped fitness tracker without a strap.
While some may have been hoping for an upgrade to the Forerunner 965 and 265 series, which are now over two years old, this new device doesn’t seem to align with those rumors. It’s possible that Garmin is gearing up to release updates to their lower-end bike computers, like the Edge 500 or 800, which have not been refreshed in quite some time.
Only time will tell what this mystery Garmin product actually turns out to be. As we wait for more information to come to light, it’s exciting to think about the possibilities.
