Donald Trump Shares His Opinion On Conor McGregor, His Tattoos & More
President Donald Trump has shared his thoughts on former UFC champion Conor McGregor, expressing admiration for the Irish fighter’s tattoos and fighting prowess. During a bilateral meeting with Ireland’s Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, in the Oval Office, Trump made references to McGregor.
“I do happen to like your fighter,” Trump said. “He’s got the best tattoos I’ve ever seen. Conor’s great… Ireland’s always had a lot of good fighters—you know why, because they’re tough people.”
This is not the first time Trump has shown an interest in combat sports, specifically the UFC. He and UFC President Dana White are friends, with Trump attending several UFC events over the years. White has also been a speaker/guest at the Republican National Convention.
In fact, McGregor was present for Trump’s inauguration in January 2020, marking one of the few times a former U.S. President met with a mixed martial arts fighter. Additionally, Trump watched McGregor’s last fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021.
McGregor, who hasn’t won a fight since January 2020 when he defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, has been absent from the UFC for nearly four years. He was scheduled to return to action in June 2024 but withdrew due to injury. The possibility of McGregor competing again remains uncertain.
It’s worth noting that Trump and White have a strong bond, which has led to connections between Trump and prominent fighters on the UFC’s roster. Fighters like Justin Gaethje, Kamaru Usman, Jon Jones, Henry Cejudo, Colby Covington, and others were vocal supporters of Trump in his most recent presidential campaign.
Trump’s connection with McGregor extends beyond their shared interest in combat sports. The two have been seen together at UFC events, including McGregor’s last fight against Dustin Poirier.
While it remains unclear when or if McGregor will return to the UFC, one thing is certain: he continues to be a hot topic of discussion in the combat sports world.
