Offset, the rapper and songwriter, has filed a lawsuit against the producer of his song “Set It Off”, alleging a royalty contract dispute. The legal action was taken after Offset failed to reach an agreement with the producer over royalties and credits.
According to reports, Offset is seeking compensation for what he believes are owed royalties from the song’s success. The Migos rapper claims that he has not received fair compensation from the producer, despite the track’s significant commercial success.
Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, filed the lawsuit in a Los Angeles court on March 15, citing breach of contract and fraud. The rapper is reportedly seeking an unspecified amount in damages for alleged unpaid royalties and credits.
In the lawsuit, Offset claims that he agreed to work with the producer under certain terms, which were not honored. He alleges that the producer has failed to provide accurate accounting statements and has refused to distribute fair compensation.
The “Set It Off” track was released in 2020 and became a viral sensation. While the song’s success was likely attributed to Offset’s involvement, it remains unclear how much of the profits he is entitled to receive.
In August 2023, Offset announced that he had dropped his lawsuit against the producer, but details on why this decision was made are not publicly available.
