Google wants Gemini to get to know you better
In a recent blog post, Google revealed its intention to enhance the capabilities of Gemini, its conversational AI platform. The move comes as a response to growing competition from OpenAI and other players in the industry.
As part of this effort, Google has announced that it will be making its 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental model available to all Gemini users. This update is expected to enable more complex interactions with the platform, such as the ability to use file attachments and integrate with apps like Google Calendar, Notes, and Tasks.
The new version also boasts a significant increase in context window size, which is set at 1 million tokens or around 750,000 words. According to Google, this will allow Gemini to better handle prompts that involve multiple apps, such as looking up an easy cookie recipe on YouTube, adding the ingredients to a shopping list, and finding nearby grocery stores.
In addition to these updates, Google has also announced enhancements to its Deep Research feature. This AI-powered research tool will now expose its “thinking” steps and use the 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental model as the default option. This is expected to result in higher-quality reports that are more detailed and insightful.
Furthermore, Google is making Gems, a topic-focused customizable chatbot, available for free to all Gemini users who were previously required to have a Gemini Advanced subscription. The company has also increased usage limits for customers with a Gemini Advanced subscription.
Finally, Google announced that it will soon be allowing all Gemini users to interact with Google Photos, enabling them to search for photos from recent trips or other specific events.
The move is likely an effort by Google to stay competitive in the industry and improve user engagement.
