Week in Review: SXSW week comes to a close
As the sun sets on another SXSW-filled week, we’re taking a moment to catch our breath and look back at some of the biggest stories from the past seven days. Let’s dive right in.
First up, Intel is out with an AI coding assistant called Cursor that reportedly tells “vibe coders” to write their own code. We’re not sure what kind of vibe coder this is, but we are intrigued by the tech behind it.
In other AI news, OpenAI has just launched a creative writing AI that’s got everyone talking. The AI can churn out some impressive prose, but critics say it lacks real emotion and originality. It sounds like this AI might be better at trying to sound deep than actually being deep itself. Maybe we’ll see an AI version of high school fiction club in the near future.
Meanwhile, profitable Klarna has filed for a potentially blockbuster IPO. We’re all ears (or should I say eyes?) on the financials, but it’s worth noting that this is not your average startup. Oh, and did someone mention an AI agent? Well, no one knows what it is yet, but we’re excited to find out.
Now, let’s take a quick trip into space (no pun intended). SpaceX just launched some astronauts for the long-awaited International Space Station crew swap. We’re not sure how to explain this in simple terms, so you’ll have to click that link and get all space-y with it.
Other news includes Skype shutting down its service next month. Who else remembers when we used to video call our friends without feeling like we were doing something wrong? Ah, nostalgia! Anyway, if you’re looking for an alternative, I heard some people are still using Zoom.
We also saw AI coding assistant Cursor tell a “vibe coder” to write their own code. Apparently, this is the future of AI, and I’m just trying to keep up.
