“The Last of Us” to Stream in American Sign Language on Max
Max announced today that it will be offering the HBO series “The Last of Us” with American Sign Language (ASL) subtitles. The move marks a significant step towards greater accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers.
Starting March 31, the first season of “The Last of Us” will be available to stream in ASL, allowing fans to catch up on the show before the new season premieres on April 13. This is a major milestone for HBO’s original content, as it will be the first time that their series has been made accessible in ASL on Max.
The ASL versions of “The Last of Us” will be performed by Daniel Durant and Leila Hanaumi. Durant is known for his role in the film “Coda,” which was the first mainstream film to feature an all-Deaf cast, while Hanaumi is a skilled ASL performer.
Max is also offering other ASL content, including “Barbie,” “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” This move highlights the platform’s commitment to making its content more accessible to all viewers.
The addition of ASL subtitles will allow a wider audience to engage with the show.
