Title: Will US Government Buy Bitcoin?
As the United States government recently forfeited a significant amount of cryptocurrency, many are left wondering if they will actually buy and hold onto it. In fact, some experts have even predicted that there’s a 30% chance the U.S. government may start buying Bitcoin.
However, as it stands, the situation seems to be a bit more complicated than initially expected. The government has indeed created a “reserve” for these forfeited coins, but critics are saying this move is just a fancy name for the government already owning these assets.
In an interview with CNBC earlier this month, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that stopping Bitcoin selling would be their first step. He didn’t entirely rule out the possibility of the U.S. government actually starting to buy Bitcoin for the reserve. This has led some experts to speculate about a potential government-backed boost in the cryptocurrency market.
It is worth noting that the exact amount of Bitcoin held by the US government remains unclear, but estimates suggest it could be as high as 200,000.
