Noble Audio FoKus Apollo review: The high price of pristine audio
The FoKus Apollo is a luxury product that’s not for everyone. It’s extremely expensive, priced at $649, which puts it in the same category as other high-end headphones like Apple’s AirPods Max and Dyson’s On-Trac. So, Noble Audio couldn’t just give us a set of headphones built mostly out of plastic and call it a day. Instead, they chose to use an impressive combination of materials that reflects their commitment to quality.
The result is a stunning pair of headphones that looks as premium as they sound. The anodized aluminum and protein leather used in the construction are top-notch, while the Alcantara headband provides both comfort and style. It’s clear that Noble Audio has invested heavily in the design and build of these headphones.
But what about the performance? In a word, it’s exceptional. The audio quality is unmatched, with incredibly detailed sound across multiple genres. It’s an experience unlike any other, but at this price point, one would expect more than just pristine audio. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.
The FoKus Apollo lacks many features that are standard in headphones of a similar price range. There’s no wear detection, no adaptive noise cancellation, and no advanced sound settings. It’s almost as if Noble Audio is trying to justify the high cost by saying, “Hey, we’re so focused on delivering the best audio possible that we didn’t bother with all those extra bells and whistles.”
And you know what? I get it. Some people will still find value in these headphones because of their incredible sound quality alone. But for me, at this price point, I expect a certain level of convenience and flexibility.
In comparison to other high-end options like the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 or Master & Dynamic’s MW75, the FoKus Apollo falls short. The Px8, in particular, is a stunning product that offers excellent sound quality, multiple color options, and advanced features like ANC and adaptive audio settings.
The real question here is whether you’re willing to pay such a premium for exceptional audio alone. If so, then the FoKus Apollo might be worth considering. However, if you’re looking for a more well-rounded listening experience with all the trimmings, you should probably look elsewhere.
Ultimately, the FoKus Apollo is not for everyone, but it will undoubtedly find a home with audiophiles who can’t compromise on quality.
