iPhone Users Warned As Dating Apps Leak Sensitive Photos, Messages
In a shocking revelation, Cybernews researchers have uncovered a massive data leak affecting five popular iOS dating apps, exposing the private photos and messages of millions of users. The affected apps cater to specific communities, including BDSM, LGBTQ+, Sugar Daddy, and transgender individuals.
As an iPhone user, it is essential to be aware that these leaks have compromised sensitive information on a massive scale. According to Cybernews, some 1.5 million images were found to be exposed, including private photos sent via direct messaging, removed for rules violations, profile pictures, and verification images.
The affected apps are BDSM People, Brish, Chica, Pink, and Translate, all of which claim to provide a safe space for users within their respective communities. However, it appears that the developers of these apps, M.A.D Mobile Apps Developers Limited, have left secrets in their code, including passwords, encryption keys, and application programming interface keys, leaving user data vulnerable.
The researchers at Cybernews were able to access a data storage bucket containing 1.6 million files, including those 541,000 images users sent to each other or uploaded to the app. The breakdown of the photo categories reveals the extent of the breach: 18,000 photos removed by moderators, 270,000 user profile photos, 70,000 photos from public posts, 90,000 photos from user chats, 65,000 blurred photos, and 28,000 profile verification photos.
It is crucial that iPhone users understand the gravity of this situation. These apps, which claim to cater to specific and sensitive communities, have failed in their duty to protect user data. The exposure of such private information raises significant concerns about privacy, security, and potential blackmail.
The affected apps include BDSM People, Brish (a gay dating app for men), Chica (a luxury dating app specializing in sugar daddy dating), Pink (a lesbian dating app), and Translate (a transgender dating app).
