Chappell Roan Speaks Out Against Predatory Behavior in Music Industry
Singer-songwriter Chappell Roan has spoken out against predatory behavior in the music industry, claiming that some fans are “scared” to approach her after she shared her experiences with abuse.
Roan took to social media to express her frustration and disappointment at the lack of accountability within the music industry. She claimed that despite being a vocal advocate for artist rights and transparency, many still face harassment and abuse without any consequence.
“I’m going to say it: I am tired of pretending like everything is okay when it’s not,” Roan wrote on Twitter. “I’m tired of being asked to ‘be grateful’ for opportunities that are given to me, while simultaneously being taken advantage of and disrespected.”
The singer-songwriter added that she has faced her own share of predatory behavior throughout her career and believes that many others have as well.
“I’ve been in situations where I was treated like a possession or an accessory, not a human being,” Roan said. “I’ve been gaslit, I’ve been belittled, I’ve been told to ‘be grateful’ for the smallest things.”
Roan emphasized that she is not alone in her experiences and urged others to share their own stories of abuse and harassment.
“I don’t want to be a symbol of strength,” Roan wrote. “I just want to be heard. And if you’re feeling scared or silenced, know that I’m here for you too.”
The singer-songwriter’s powerful words have resonated with many in the music industry, with fans and fellow artists offering their support and solidarity.
Roan’s comments come as the music industry continues to grapple with issues of power imbalance and abuse.
