US SEC Chair Nominee Paul Atkins Vows Regulatory Clarity for Crypto
Paul Atkins, the nominee for Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has pledged to prioritize regulatory clarity in the cryptocurrency sector. This development has sparked hope among investors, particularly those holding Ripple’s XRP token, that a more transparent approach will be adopted by the agency.
During his nomination hearing before the Senate Banking Committee, Atkins emphasized the need for a structured and principled approach to digital assets, with the aim of establishing a reliable regulatory framework through collaboration with fellow commissioners and Congress.
This commitment to clarity marks a significant shift away from the SEC’s previous “regulation by enforcement” strategy, widely criticized under former Chair Gary Gensler for its ambiguity and reactive nature. Atkins has promised to restore the agency’s credibility by focusing on foundational principles and aligning actions with its core mission.
Notably, Atkins also criticized certain aspects of Gensler’s tenure, including court-overturned rulemaking initiatives, high staff attrition, and controversial enforcement actions against cryptocurrency firms.
